Bit Hotel is a social play-to-earn (P2E) non-fungible token (NFT) game that combines the nostalgia of 8-bit pixel art with blockchain technology. Founded in 2021 by Bram Hoogenkamp and with Leon as COO, the Amsterdam-based company aims to provide a social-first gaming metaverse. The idea was formed in 2021 after observing the trend of web3 moving into gaming, drawing inspiration from the social concepts of games like Habbo Hotel and Roblox to incorporate true ownership of in-game items on the blockchain. The company raised $3.25 million through a fully crowd-funded Initial Coin Offering (ICO) at the end of 2021.

The game operates on a dual-token economy within the BNB Chain and Moonbeam blockchains, with recent integration plans for the SKALE Network. The primary currency is the Bit Hotel Token ($BTH), a BEP-20 token used for purchasing in-game NFTs, trading on the marketplace, staking for rewards, and participating in governance proposals. The second is an in-game token, $BHOTEL, which is earned by playing mini-games and can be redeemed for NFTs. The business model includes transaction fees on its NFT marketplace, proceeds from NFT sales, and partnerships. When trading NFTs, a 3% transaction fee in $BTH is applied, with 25% of that fee being burned to reduce the total supply.

Players, or "hotel guests," can create their in-game persona using unique NFT characters, which come in six rarity tiers that provide a P2E multiplier. They can acquire and customize NFT hotel rooms, which serve as personal social hubs for hosting events, displaying NFT galleries, or even renting them out to other players. The core gameplay involves competing in various mini-games to climb a global leaderboard and earn rewards like tokens and rare NFTs. This creates a dynamic where players can socialize, compete, and generate value through their in-game activities and assets.
