Biscoint is a Brazilian fintech platform that began in 2016 as a tool to compare cryptocurrency prices across different exchanges. It was founded by programmers Jonathas Carrijo and Thiago Borges Abdnur. Initially, the platform connected to major exchanges in Brazil, allowing users to find the best prices for buying and selling Bitcoin by displaying the effective price, including fees.
In 2019, the company evolved from a price comparator into a cryptocurrency marketplace, enabling users to trade directly on the Biscoint platform. This development allowed users to access multiple exchanges through a single account, simplifying the trading process. The firm's offerings, known as Price Comparator and BiscointBuy, were recognized for their user-friendly interface, especially for those new to the crypto market.
A significant milestone occurred in July 2022 when Biscoint was acquired by BitPreço, Latin America's largest cryptocurrency order book aggregator. This acquisition was a strategic move for BitPreço to expand its operations and user base. Following the merger, Biscoint's co-founders, Jonathas Carrijo (CEO) and Thiago Borges (CTO), joined the board of the new entity as directors of product and technology, respectively. The Biscoint brand was retained, but its function reverted to being solely a price comparison tool, while its trading and user account functionalities were integrated into the newly launched Bitybank, a crypto bank created from the fusion of Biscoint and BitPreço.
