Bioreactor OÜ is a Tallinn-based cleantech company founded in 2022 that develops cloud-controlled micro-bioreactors for decentralized and weather-independent heat and electricity generation. The company aims to address energy poverty, enhance energy security, and combat climate change by providing a cost-effective and sustainable energy solution.
The core product is a 45 kW miniature power plant designed for households and small communities, enabling them to achieve energy self-sufficiency. This technology utilizes intelligent biomass gasification to convert carbonaceous feedstock, such as biowaste, into on-site heat and electricity. To optimize the complex thermochemical reactions, the system leverages advanced computational fluid dynamics, deep learning, and digital twin technologies, allowing for real-time performance adjustments based on varying fuel types and conditions. The technology is scalable and can be adapted for larger energy needs, including powering microgrids.
In March 2023, Bioreactor announced the successful closing of its pre-seed financing round, with investments from the Finnish firms Grid.vc and Hiidenkivi Investment Oy. This funding is intended to support the production and delivery of the company's first 25 pilot installations, which are projected to have a combined annual clean energy generation capacity of 10 GWh. One of the co-founders is Kim Forsman, who serves as the Managing Director.
