BioFashionTech is an Amsterdam-based deep tech company founded in 2020 that develops biotechnological processes for recycling mixed textile waste. Its patent-pending enzymatic method transforms colored, blended fabrics—whether post-industrial or consumer—into valuable outputs like fermentable sugars, recycled plastics, synthetic fibers, eco-friendly biofuels, dyes, and biocomposites. This low-energy process requires no harsh chemicals, separates polymers and dyes, and handles mixed materials without pre-sorting.

Adopting a closed-loop circular model, the company turns waste into inputs for fashion, chemical, packaging, and energy sectors. Processing 1,000 tonnes of textile waste reportedly saves more than 2,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions and repurposes nearly 28 million plastic bottles. The technology aligns with European Union waste regulations and supports broader sustainability frameworks.

BioFashionTech has earned recognition and support through awards like StartCup Lombardia, Hello Tomorrow Deep Tech Pioneer, and honors from Roger Léron and BCG in 2025. It has obtained pilot agreements and expressions of interest from municipal and industrial partners, with plans to roll out modular recycling units at scale.

With R&D collaborations in the Netherlands, Italy, and Germany, the company is working to accelerate the adoption of advanced textile recycling technologies and enable brands to close supply chains sustainably.
