Berner Oberlander
Regional daily newspaper for the Bernese Oberland.
Berner Oberlander is a Swiss regional daily newspaper that focuses on the Bernese Oberland area, providing comprehensive news coverage on local politics, business, sports, and culture. The newspaper, originally named "Der Werktag," was founded in 1898. It is published by Berner Oberland Medien AG (BOM), which also issues the "Thuner Tagblatt".
The company's business model relies on both print and digital subscriptions. Readers can access content through the traditional newspaper, a digital e-paper version, and a news application. The news app offers features like push notifications for selected topics, the ability to save articles, and offline reading. While the app is free to download, full access to all articles and the e-paper requires a subscription. Non-subscribers have the option to purchase single issues.
In December 2022, Tamedia acquired all remaining shares of Berner Oberland Medien AG, becoming its sole owner. Subsequently, in June 2024, it was announced that Berner Oberland Medien AG would be dissolved and fully integrated into Tamedia Espace AG to simplify organizational and structural processes. This consolidation was not intended to affect the editorial independence or content of the "Berner Oberländer" and "Thuner Tagblatt" media titles.
