BBM Logística, established in 1996, operates as a significant logistics provider within Brazil and the Mercosur region. The company was founded by members of the Battistella family and underwent a major transformation in 2017 when the private equity fund Stratus Group invested, aiming to professionalize management and accelerate growth. Marcos Battistella, one of the founders, remains on the Board of Directors. A pivotal figure in its recent history is André Prado, who served as CEO from 2017 to 2023. Prado, a civil engineer with a master's degree in logistics systems engineering and a doctorate in transport from the University of São Paulo (USP), along with a specialization from MIT, spearheaded a period of rapid expansion, growing revenue from R$ 337 million in 2017 to R$ 2.0 billion in 2022 through organic growth and strategic acquisitions. In March 2023, Antonio Wrobleski Filho, an engineer with extensive experience at DHL and Ryder, took over as CEO.
The company's business model is built on two primary segments: Transportation Management (TM) and Dedicated Contract Carriage (DCC). The TM segment encompasses Full Truck Load (FTL) and Less than Truck Load (LTL) freight operations across Brazil and Mercosur countries, serving diverse industries like automotive, chemicals, steel, construction, and paper and pulp. The DCC segment provides specialized, long-term contract logistics, with dedicated teams and equipment for clients in sectors such as forestry, agribusiness, industrial gases, and petrochemicals, which includes storage services. This dual approach allows BBM to pursue scalable growth with relatively low investment in the TM division while securing recurring revenue through long-term DCC agreements. Revenue generation is derived directly from providing these end-to-end logistics services.
BBM Logística delivers a comprehensive suite of services, including integrated logistics, road transport, storage, international freight, and specialized e-commerce solutions. A key component of its offering is the use of technology, such as a Transportation Management System (TMS), monitoring tools like in-truck cameras, and tire sensors to ensure operational control. The company has aggressively expanded its capabilities through acquisitions, including the ground transport division of Kuehne + Nagel in 2018, Translovato in 2019, and Diálogo in 2020 to bolster its last-mile and e-commerce operations. These acquisitions have been central to its strategy of becoming a market consolidator in the highly fragmented Brazilian logistics sector. Despite attempting an IPO twice, the company has remained privately held, focusing on financing its expansion through other means, such as debenture emissions.
