PT Bank Index Selindo (Bank Index) is an Indonesian private commercial bank established on July 30, 1992, commencing operations on August 23, 1993. The bank primarily serves the commercial sector, with a pronounced focus on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which constitute a significant majority of its loan portfolio. Its business model revolves around providing working capital and investment loans to this segment, leveraging a network of over 50 branches across key commercial areas in Java, Sumatra, Bali, and Sulawesi. Revenue is generated through interest income on loans and fees from various banking services.
The bank's current President Director is Gimin Sumalim, who, despite having an educational background in Petroleum Engineering from Universitas Trisakti, has built a substantial career in banking since 1992. Before joining Bank Index, he held several strategic positions at PT Bank Bali and PT Bank Ekonomi Raharja (now HSBC Indonesia), culminating in his role as Director of Retail Banking. His leadership at Bank Index is marked by a focus on digital transformation and maintaining personalized customer relationships, approaching service with a familial touch.
Throughout its history, Bank Index has demonstrated resilience and strategic growth. It successfully navigated the 1997-1998 Asian financial crisis and has since achieved several key milestones. A significant development was the 2008 merger with Bank Harmoni Internasional, which increased the bank's assets and expanded its branch network. In 2009, Bank Index obtained a license to operate as a foreign exchange bank. To support its digital ambitions, the bank launched its internet and mobile banking platform, IndexQu, in 2018. More recently, in 2022, the bank received strategic investments from fintech company Modalku (Funding Societies) and automotive marketplace Carro, aiming to enhance its digital financial services and enter the neobanking space. The bank's core capital has been strengthened over the years, partly through a stake sale to private equity firm Creador in 2015 and subsequent capital increases to meet regulatory requirements.
Bank Index offers a range of products and services tailored for its SME clients. On the lending side, it provides commercial credit and has developed digital systems to expedite loan processes. For funding, the bank offers competitive interest rates on deposit products and provides business-focused solutions like virtual accounts and payroll systems through its "IndexQu Bisnis" digital platform. The bank differentiates itself by combining this digital offering with a high-touch, personal approach to foster strong client relationships.
