Autotask PSA, now a component of Kaseya's portfolio, originated as a cloud-based professional services automation (PSA) platform. The company was founded in 2001 by Bob Godgart. Prior to Autotask, Godgart founded Right Source, a company that developed custom software and provided IT outsourcing services, an experience which likely informed the development of a tool designed to streamline IT service delivery.

The platform is engineered specifically for Managed Service Providers (MSPs), IT service providers, and other technology-focused businesses to centralize their core operations. Autotask PSA integrates multiple business functions into a single, unified system, including customer relationship management (CRM), service desk and ticketing, project management, and time and billing. This consolidation aims to enhance operational efficiency by eliminating the need for disparate systems. The business model is subscription-based, generating recurring revenue by charging clients for access to the software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform.

Subsequently, Autotask merged with Datto in 2017 to create a more comprehensive suite of tools for MSPs, combining PSA with Datto's backup and disaster recovery solutions. This entity was later acquired by Kaseya in 2022, integrating Autotask PSA into an even larger ecosystem of IT management software.
