AtmoTrack, operating under its parent company 42 Factory, was established in 2015 by co-founders Romain Scimia and Valentin Gauffre. The inspiration for the company reportedly came after Scimia, an IT engineer, experienced China's air quality, prompting him and Gauffre, who has a background in design and innovation, to develop a solution.
The company provides hyperlocal, real-time air quality monitoring through a turnkey "Air Quality as a Service" solution. This service combines a network of proprietary, multi-pollutant IoT sensors with a SaaS data exploitation platform called Data AtmoTrack. The sensors, designed for both fixed and mobile deployment on vehicles, measure a range of pollutants including particulate matter (PM1, PM2.5, PM10), various gases (NO2, CO, SO2, O3), as well as environmental factors like sound level and atmospheric pressure. This data is transmitted in real-time to an online dashboard where clients can visualize and analyze air quality on a street-by-street level.
AtmoTrack's business model is primarily subscription-based, offering its platform and sensor rental to its clients. The company serves a diverse clientele that includes governments, municipalities, and private businesses, assisting them with environmental policy-making, urban planning, and regulatory compliance for standards like ISO 14001 and Low Emission Zones (LEZ). Partners have included major organizations such as La Poste, Suez, and Transdev. To further its mission, AtmoTrack developed a free citizen mobile application, Caeli, which provides the public with localized air quality data and advice. The company has received recognition through awards like the GreenTech Verte label and has participated in programs such as French IoT. In May 2025, it was noted that AtmoTrack was acquired and now operates as a subsidiary of Groupe Tera.
