Geneva-based Asteria Investment Managers operates as a specialized asset management firm with a core focus on impact investing. Founded in 2019 by REYL Group, the company was established to provide institutional investors with a dedicated channel for investments that target measurable social and environmental returns alongside financial ones. Katia Coudray, a seasoned professional in asset management, was recruited to lead the new entity as CEO, bringing extensive experience from her previous roles at SYZ Asset Management and Union Bancaire Privée.
The firm's strategic development has been marked by significant partnerships and structural evolution. In December 2020, Asteria announced a strategic tie-up with Obviam AG, a Swiss impact private asset manager, to create a combined entity named Asteria Obviam. This merger integrated Obviam's private equity expertise with Asteria's capabilities in liquid markets and private debt, creating a comprehensive impact investing platform. Subsequently, as part of a broader strategic partnership initiated in 2021, REYL Group was majority-acquired by Fideuram – Intesa Sanpaolo Private Banking. More recently, in 2023, Asteria itself was sold to Man Group, a global active investment manager, in a transaction aimed at creating a range of technology-enabled investment strategies for a broader European client base.
Asteria's business model centers on creating and managing a diverse range of investment solutions that balance risk, return, and responsibility. The firm serves institutional and private clients by offering strategies across various asset classes, including thematic listed equities, sustainable bonds, private debt, and private equity. Its investment philosophy is guided by frameworks such as the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on themes like environmental preservation, social inclusion, and sustainable innovation. Revenue is generated through asset management fees. Using a proprietary investment process that combines impact research with financial analysis, the firm identifies companies that generate positive real-world benefits. This data-driven approach allows for systematic portfolio construction designed to maximize expected returns and impact simultaneously.
