Assemblean provides a streamlined solution for companies to bring physical products to market, addressing the common challenges of sourcing reliable suppliers and establishing production capacities. The Paderborn-based company operates a Production-as-a-Service (PaaS) model, targeting startups and established companies that require manufacturing support for individual components, modules, or complete products. The business generates revenue by offering comprehensive production services, including sourcing, engineering support, and manufacturing, facilitated by its proprietary supply chain management software.
Founded in 2021 by Dr. Ing. Xiaojun Yang and Alexander Freund, Assemblean emerged from extensive academic research in production and supply chain technologies at the Heinz Nixdorf Institute of Paderborn University. The founders' journey began during their PhD studies, where they identified critical inefficiencies in traditional manufacturing processes. This academic foundation underpins the company's core offering: an intelligent platform that automates and coordinates the entire production process. Clients can upload their product specifications, and Assemblean manages the rest, from procurement to final assembly and shipping.
The company's operational structure is a hybrid, combining a global network of over 300 production partners with three of its own manufacturing facilities. This setup allows for significant flexibility, enabling clients to either outsource their entire supply chain to Assemblean or supplement their existing resources. The platform is designed to handle projects of varying scales, from initial prototypes to high-volume mass production. In February 2025, Assemblean secured €1.8 million in a seed funding round led by b2venture, with participation from Archimedes New Ventures and the Teuto Seed Club, to further develop its platform and expand its reach within the contract manufacturing market.
