The group was co-founded by orthopaedic surgeons including Dr. Chin Pak Lin, who also serves as the Executive Chairman and CEO. Dr. Chin, a Malaysian-born surgeon, pursued medicine at the National University of Singapore (NUS) after receiving a scholarship. His journey into orthopaedics was inspired by a mentor, and he gained extensive experience at Singapore General Hospital before co-founding AHS with the vision of bringing high-end, specialized medical care to the market. His background includes a Masters of Medicine in Orthopaedic Surgery from NUS and a fellowship with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

In a major strategic shift, AHS was acquired in late 2022 by the regional tech-led healthcare company Doctor Anywhere. This acquisition was intended to vertically integrate Doctor Anywhere's primary care services with AHS's secondary specialized care, aiming to meet rising demand for complex treatments in Southeast Asia. Following the acquisition, AHS was delisted from the SGX in January 2023 but continues to operate as a separate entity.
