Artion, a Belgian scale-up founded on June 29, 2021, is carving out a niche in the compliance and safety market by addressing the often-manual process of legally required inspections. The company operates a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform designed to automate the organization and monitoring of these mandatory checks for businesses. The genesis of Artion stemmed from co-founder Caroline Van der Steen's extensive experience as the head of an environmental department for the government. During her 15 years in that role, she frequently observed companies failing to comply with inspection regulations due to a lack of structure or knowledge, which inspired her to create a solution alongside co-founders Jean-Michel Teerlinck and Tom Van Coillie.
The firm’s business model positions it as an independent intermediary between its clients and various inspection companies. Artion itself does not perform inspections; instead, its platform manages the inspectors, centralizes all documentation, and verifies compliance. This approach provides clients with a consolidated, real-time overview of their entire asset inventory across different locations and ensures adherence to the correct regional legislation. Revenue is generated through this platform, which serves a diverse client base ranging from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to large corporations with professional facility or property management teams. While SMEs seek peace of mind and time savings, larger companies leverage the platform for efficiency gains and to facilitate correct reporting for management, ISO, or ESG purposes.
Artion's core product is its compliance management platform, which offers several key features. It allows businesses to create an inventory of their assets, link specific legislation to each installation, assign inspectors, and analyze all resulting certificates. This centralized system provides real-time dashboards that help streamline operational efficiency and mitigate risks associated with non-compliance, such as fines, insurance issues, and director liability. A significant milestone for the Aalter-based company was securing a €1.4 million investment in May 2024, in a round led by Entourage and supported by Dovesco, Tilleghem, and Belfius. This funding is intended to accelerate growth, expand the team, and fuel international expansion, starting with the Netherlands.
