Arrive, initially founded as Coozie Gear in 2017 by the husband-and-wife team Rachelle Snyder and Ross Richmond, has evolved its business model to address the growing circular economy. The idea for the company stemmed from the founders' personal experience after moving to Los Angeles and facing the high cost and inconvenience of purchasing outdoor equipment for occasional use. They initially bootstrapped the company, personally handling deliveries in Los Angeles to validate their concept of providing premium, on-demand gear rentals.
Originally launched as a direct-to-consumer rental service for outdoor gear named Arrive Outdoors, the company provided equipment for camping, hiking, and skiing, delivered directly to the customer's home or destination. This model aimed to give people access to experiences without the burden of ownership, focusing on sustainability by shifting from a consumption-based to a utilization-based model. After identifying a broader market need, Arrive transitioned to a business-to-business model. In January 2022, the company expanded its enterprise platform to include resale, becoming a fully-circular e-commerce solution for brands and retailers.
Under its current iteration as Arrive Recommerce, the company provides a technology and reverse logistics platform that enables brands to create their own branded resale channels. This service, called "Returns to Recommerce™," helps businesses turn a cost center—returned, excess, or damaged inventory—into a profit center. Arrive manages the technical infrastructure, inventory management, and customer support for its partners' resale programs. The platform is comprised of a Recommerce Management System for warehouse processing, an Ecommerce Storefront for the branded resale site, and Full Stack Analytics to provide operational and sales data. This approach allows brands to sell non-new items directly to consumers, maintaining brand control and offering a sustainable option. Arrive has partnered with notable brands such as YETI, Burton Snowboards, and David's Bridal. The company has secured significant funding, including a $16 million Series A round in July 2023, bringing its total funding to over $25 million.
