In 1981, a playbook for many great companies began with a simple premise: build a quality product and provide superior service. This was the foundation upon which Donald Goodstein established Arctic Industries in Miami, Florida. The company focused on manufacturing walk-in coolers and freezers, essential equipment for sectors like foodservice, healthcare, and industrial applications. This wasn't a flashy, high-growth tech startup, but a bet on the steady, critical need for reliable cold storage. The company grew steadily, building a reputation for value and quality. A significant moment in its journey occurred in January 2018, when Arctic Industries was acquired by the private equity firm Stoic Holdings. This event marked a new phase of expansion. Later that year, sponsored by Stoic, Arctic acquired Duracold Refrigeration Manufacturing Company, a move that expanded its manufacturing footprint to the West Coast and enhanced its production capabilities. In February 2024, the company changed hands again, acquired by another Chicago-based private equity firm, Kinzie Capital Partners. This transaction, made in partnership with Arctic's existing management, was aimed at driving further growth and national market expansion. From its founding by Goodstein to its current private equity ownership, Arctic Industries' story is one of consistent focus on a fundamental business need, punctuated by strategic acquisitions to strengthen its market position.
