Applix Inc. was a software company founded in 1983 and based in Westborough, Massachusetts. The company specialized in Business Performance Management (BPM) and Business Intelligence (BI) solutions. Its core product was the Applix TM1, a multi-dimensional online analytical processing (MOLAP) database server used for enterprise planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis.
The Applix Business Analytics Platform consisted of three main components: Applix TM1, Applix Web, and Applix Executive Viewer. This suite enabled organizations to measure, monitor, and optimize financial and operational performance. The TM1 platform was known for its real-time analytics, Excel integration, and adaptability, serving over 3,000 customers in more than 50 countries across various industries, including financial services, healthcare, and retail.
In a significant development, Applix Inc. was acquired by Cognos on October 25, 2007, for $339 million. Subsequently, IBM acquired Cognos on January 31, 2008. Following the acquisitions, Applix's products were rebranded under the Cognos name, and TM1 is now marketed as IBM Cognos TM1.
