APM Automation Solutions Ltd., founded in Tel Aviv, Israel, in 2005 by Ofir Perl and Yossi Zlotnick, specialized in the development of instrumentation for measuring the volume and level of solids. The founders leveraged their extensive backgrounds in managing large-scale telecommunications and signal processing projects to address challenges in bulk solids measurement.
The company's core offering was the 3DLevelScanner, a device utilizing patented acoustic imaging and 3D mapping technology. This system was designed to provide accurate measurements of the level, volume, and mass of bulk solids and powders stored in silos, bins, and open piles. Its key feature was a dust-penetrating capability, which used low-frequency acoustic signals to function effectively in environments where dust could obstruct other measurement methods. This enabled operators to get a precise reading of contents, identify issues like air pockets or clogging, and generate 3D visualizations of the material surface for better inventory management and process control.
The business catered to a wide array of industries that handle bulk solids, including food and beverage, metals and mining, power generation, chemical, and pulp and paper. For these clients, the technology offered improved process and inventory control, early warnings for maintenance, and enhanced safety. APM Automation Solutions established a global distribution network, supplying its products in over 30 countries across the US, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.
A significant milestone in the company's history occurred on December 18, 2013, when it was acquired by Emerson (NYSE: EMR), a global technology and engineering company. Following the acquisition, APM became part of the Emerson Process Management business and its technologies were integrated into Emerson's Rosemount® portfolio of measurement products. At the time of the acquisition, APM employed around 30 people, with operations primarily in Israel, the US, and China, and its manufacturing was conducted in Israel.
