AnSem is a fabless analog Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC) design service company, now operating as a subsidiary of Cyient. It was founded on February 13, 1998, by Stefan Gogaert and Jan Crols as a spin-off from KU Leuven and the research center imec. The company is headquartered in Leuven, Belgium, and has expanded with design centers in the Netherlands and Germany.
The firm offers two primary business models: custom mixed-signal IC design and full turnkey ASIC solutions. This involves managing the entire product lifecycle, from initial design and prototype evaluation to volume manufacturing and supply chain management. AnSem specializes in advanced integrated circuits for a variety of applications, including wired and wireless data transmission, sensor data acquisition, high-voltage, and ultra-low-power systems. Its client base consists of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and semiconductor companies in the automotive, medical, industrial, consumer, smart home, and smart grid markets.
On April 26, 2018, AnSem was acquired by Cyient Ltd, a global engineering and technology solutions company, for approximately $17 million. The acquisition was intended to integrate AnSem's custom analog and mixed-signal IC capabilities with Cyient's IoT and analytics solutions, enhancing its ability to provide turnkey ICs from concept to production. At the time of the acquisition, AnSem had revenues of around $10 million with an operating margin of over 20%. Following the acquisition, AnSem became Cyient's center of excellence for mixed-signal ASIC solutions.
