Anima

Anima is a design-to-code platform that streamlines application development by converting designs from tools like Figma, Adobe XD, and Sketch into developer-friendly code. Founded in 2017 by CEO Avishay Cohen, CPO Michal Cohen, and CTO Or Arbel, the company originated from the founders' own experiences with the friction between design and development teams. The co-founders, a husband-and-wife developer-designer duo along with their CTO, all veterans of Israeli startups, aimed to eliminate the inefficiencies of manually translating static design mockups into functional code.

The platform operates on a subscription-based business model, with tiered pricing plans including free, pro, and business options, catering to a diverse client base from independent developers to large enterprises. Anima's core service allows designers to create high-fidelity, interactive, and responsive prototypes that developers can then automatically convert into code for frameworks like React, Vue, and HTML/CSS. This process aims to ensure the final product faithfully matches the designer's intent, reducing the back-and-forth that often occurs during the traditional handoff process. More recently, Anima has incorporated AI capabilities, allowing users to start from a text prompt or image, and use an AI chat to refine designs, add features, and connect to backend services.

Anima participated in the Y Combinator accelerator program in the summer of 2018. The company has secured a total of $12.6 million in funding over three rounds, including a $10 million Series A round in September 2021, led by MizMaa Ventures with participation from INcapital and Hetz Ventures. Headquartered in New York with an office in Tel Aviv, Anima has grown to serve over a million users, including designers at major tech companies like Netflix, Facebook, and Google.
