Amperehour Energy, founded in 2017 by a team of IIT Bombay alumni—Ayush Misra, Rahul Shelke, Harshal Thakur, and Neehar Jathar—is a Pune-based company specializing in battery energy storage systems (BESS). The founders leveraged their collective experience as power sector experts, driven by a vision to facilitate the global transition to 100% renewable energy through technological solutions. The company addresses the intermittency of renewable sources like solar and wind by providing reliable energy storage.
The core of Amperehour's business is the development and deployment of modular, scalable, and software-driven BESS. These systems range from kilowatt-hour scale for mini-grids to megawatt-hour scale for co-location with utility-scale solar and wind plants. A key component of their offering is the proprietary, AI/ML-enabled energy management platform, 'Elina'. This software optimizes energy dispatch in real-time to either reduce electricity costs for clients through peak shaving and time-of-day arbitrage or to generate revenue via grid ancillary services. Elina's architecture allows it to manage battery operations, run control algorithms, and integrate with third-party systems, enhancing grid stability and ensuring reliable backup power.
Amperehour operates on a B2B model, providing turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services for seamless system integration. Its client base includes power generation companies, transmission and distribution utilities, and industrial and commercial clients using diesel generators, as well as EV charging providers. The company serves prominent domestic and international firms such as Siemens, Amazon, Coca-Cola, Indigrid, and Yellow Door (UAE). The company has expanded its operations globally, with projects in the UAE, Oman, and Nigeria, and new ventures under commissioning in Belgium. As of early 2025, the company had commissioned over 40 MWh of capacity and was executing projects totaling nearly 1,000 MWh across more than 50 sites. To fuel this growth, Amperehour secured $5 million in a Series A funding round in March 2025, led by Avaana Capital.
