AMISYS Managed Care Systems provides comprehensive software and hardware systems for the healthcare industry, specifically for health maintenance organizations (HMOs) and health insurance companies. The company's core product is a managed care information system that handles critical business processes such as member enrollment and eligibility, claims processing and payment, contract management, billing, customer service, and patient referrals. This platform is designed to help clients optimize administrative workflows, reduce operational costs, and achieve high auto-adjudication rates.
The business was originally a division of American International Group Inc. (AIG). In 1994, a team of executives led by Kevin Brown, along with venture capital firms, acquired the division for $10 million. The company underwent a couple of name changes before becoming Amisys Managed Care Systems Inc. in November 1995 and launched its initial public offering (IPO) in December 1995. Just 15 months after its IPO, in February 1997, Amisys agreed to be acquired by HBO & Co. (HBOC) for approximately $170 million. The company has since gone through a series of acquisitions and corporate restructuring. HBOC merged with McKesson, and in 2001, the Payor Solutions Group of McKesson HBOC, which included AMISYS, was sold to Platinum Equity and established as AMISYS LLC. In 2003, Amisys Synertech acquired the company. Subsequently, DST Systems acquired Amisys Synertech.
AMISYS serves a wide range of clients including commercial, Medicaid, and Medicare HMOs, third-party administrators (TPAs), and physician-hospital organizations. The system is known as AMISYS Advance and provides solutions for various lines of business, including medical, dental, disability, and life insurance. Its features include a browser-based user interface, HIPAA compliance, batch claims processing, and case management.
