Alpin

Founded in 2015 by Julien Denaes, Benjamin Soulier, and Mark Evans, Alpin developed a platform to address the growing complexity of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) environments within organizations. The company, a graduate of the Techstars Barclays accelerator, established its base in Boulder, Colorado. In October 2019, Alpin was acquired by CoreView, a management platform for Microsoft Office 365, to integrate its SaaS application management capabilities into CoreView's existing suite.

Alpin operates as a SaaS management tool designed to provide IT departments with comprehensive visibility and control over their software subscriptions. The platform generates revenue through a monthly or annual subscription model, with pricing based on the number of users. Its primary function is to automatically discover all SaaS applications in use across an organization, including both paid and free services, to create a complete inventory of a company's software landscape. This discovery process helps businesses understand the full scope of their SaaS sprawl and associated costs.

The service provides detailed analytics on software license usage, enabling clients to identify underutilized or unused subscriptions and reduce waste, potentially cutting costs by up to 30%. By centralizing billing histories and tracking renewal dates, Alpin helps organizations negotiate better terms with vendors and forecast future software expenditures. Beyond cost management, the platform incorporates security and compliance features. It monitors user activity and application permissions, alerting administrators to potentially risky actions, such as insecure file sharing or applications with excessive data access.
