Alert-iT Care Alarms, a trade name for iTs Designs Ltd, manufactures and distributes assistive technology and care alarm systems. The company's journey began in 1992 when founder David Godfrey, then a volunteer for the charity REMAP, was asked to create a device to alert a mother to her daughter's nocturnal epileptic seizures. This led to the creation of a bed sensor that could detect seizure-related movements. The first commercial products, initially named Malf-iT, were launched in 1996 featuring a failsafe radio technology with a superior range compared to other telecare products at the time.
The business was established as a part-time venture in 1996 and officially incorporated in 2003. A significant moment came in 2003 when one of the company's alarms was credited with saving the life of a young boy, which provided the security for the company to grow and develop new products. By 2009, the company adopted the Alert-iT name and expanded into its first factory. The company's product range is designed in-house and manufactured in the UK, adhering to ISO 13485 standards for social aids. They serve both domestic and professional care environments, including care homes and hospitals, and have an international distribution network. Their offerings include monitors for epilepsy, falls, and wandering, which are designed to enhance the vigilance of caregivers without being overly intrusive, thus preserving user dignity. After David Godfrey passed away in 2017, the company has continued his legacy under the leadership of CEO Janet Godfrey.
