In 1989, a new chapter in Turkey's industrial story began. Akkök Holding, a conglomerate founded in 1952 by Raif Dinçkök, launched Akenerji as the country's first auto-producer power group. This move marked Akkök's strategic entry into the energy sector, building on its established presence in chemicals and real estate. Akenerji started its operations on May 16, 1989, pioneering a new model for electricity generation in a rapidly growing economy. The company methodically expanded its capacity through the 1990s by acquiring and building new power plants. A pivotal moment arrived in 2000 when Akenerji went public, offering 25% of its shares on the Istanbul Stock Exchange. This initial public offering provided the capital for further growth and diversification. The company shifted its focus toward renewable energy sources beginning in 2005, a strategy that would define its future. The story took a significant turn in 2008 with a major strategic partnership. ČEZ Group, a major European energy conglomerate based in the Czech Republic, entered into a joint venture with Akkök Holding, acquiring a significant stake in Akenerji. This international alliance brought a massive infusion of capital and expertise, leading to the construction of major new facilities, including the 904 MW Egemer natural gas power plant. Today, Akenerji operates a diversified portfolio of hydroelectric, wind, and natural gas plants, standing as a key player in Turkey's energy market.
