In 1987, long before the internet reshaped the travel industry, AirTreks was founded. It started with a clear, focused mission: to simplify complex, multi-stop international travel. While other companies would eventually focus on simple round-trip tickets, AirTreks carved out a niche by catering to travelers embarking on complicated, around-the-world journeys. The company established itself as a leader in a specialized market, blending human expertise with technology. Instead of leaving travelers to piece together a difficult itinerary, AirTreks provided a service where experienced travel planners would craft the entire journey. This approach attracted a loyal following of clients, from non-profits and universities to families and solo adventurers who valued the time savings and expert guidance. A significant chapter in the company's story unfolded in December 2013, when AirTreks was acquired by BootsnAll Travel Network for an undisclosed amount. BootsnAll, a community and resource for long-term travelers, saw a perfect synergy between its own audience and AirTreks' specialized flight-booking capabilities. Following the acquisition, BootsnAll's CEO, Sean Keener, took the helm of both companies, which continued to operate as distinct brands. The merger aimed to create a one-stop shop for the independent, long-term traveler, a segment they felt was overlooked by major online travel agencies.
