AirPrime was a provider of high-speed, code division multiple access (CDMA) wireless data and voice products for the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) market. Founded in 1999, the company focused on creating wireless access products for integration into devices such as handhelds, notebook PCs, and internet appliances. This enabled manufacturers to incorporate wireless data, voice, and location services into their mobile and fixed computing devices.
The company operated in the connectivity products and communication software industries. Over its history, AirPrime raised $86.8 million in funding from 18 investors, including Belgravia Investments, CrossFire Ventures, and GE Capital. On August 12, 2003, AirPrime was acquired by Sierra Wireless in a stock swap valued at approximately $20 million, with Sierra Wireless also providing up to $2 million in capital.
