AirCloset, Inc. is a Japanese fashion technology company operating a subscription-based clothing rental platform primarily for women. Founded in July 2014 as Neuer Sieg Inc. by Satoshi Amanuma, Yusuke Maekawa, and Shoichi Kotani, the company officially launched its service in February 2015 and rebranded to airCloset, Inc. in June of the same year. The business idea originated from one of the founder's wives who, despite having many clothes, struggled with what to wear daily. The founders, several of whom have backgrounds at ABeam Consulting and Rakuten, aimed to solve this problem for busy working women and mothers.
The core business operates on a monthly subscription model where users receive a box of three clothing items selected by professional stylists based on the customer's registered preferences and data. Subscribers can wear the items as much as they like and exchange them for a new set, with no cleaning required upon return. The service leverages a patented "Styling Providing System" to deliver a personalized experience that improves with user feedback. The main plan costs around ¥9,800 per month, and users also have the option to purchase items they like. The company primarily serves working women in their 30s and 40s.
AirCloset has expanded its offerings to include "airCloset Mall," a manufacturer-authorized rental mall; "airCloset Dress" for special occasions; and "Disney FASHION CLOSET" for Disney-themed apparel. The company went public and was listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Growth Market in July 2022. AirCloset promotes sustainability and a circular economy by aiming for zero clothing waste in its fashion operations.
