The story of Advanced Enzyme Technologies begins not in 1989 when the company was formally incorporated, but decades earlier, in 1957. That's when founder L.C. Rathi first started extracting papain, an enzyme from papayas, and a year later established India's first enzyme manufacturing plant. This early start laid the groundwork for what would become a global player in a highly specialized field. His sons, V.L. Rathi and C.L. Rathi, officially founded Advanced Biochemicals Private Ltd. in 1989, which was later renamed Advanced Enzyme Technologies in 2005. At its core, the business is about harnessing the power of enzymes and probiotics. These are proteins that act as catalysts for countless biological and chemical processes. Advanced Enzymes develops and produces these for a wide range of industries, from human and animal healthcare to food processing and textiles. The company grew steadily, focusing on research and development to create a vast portfolio of over 400 products. This deep vertical integration, from R&D to manufacturing and marketing, allowed them to provide customized solutions for clients worldwide. A pivotal moment for the company came in July 2016 when it launched its Initial Public Offering (IPO) on the Indian stock exchanges. The IPO, which aimed to raise over ₹400 crores, was a significant success, getting subscribed over 116 times. This event not only provided a major capital infusion but also elevated the company's profile, leading to it winning an award for the "Best IPO" in 2017. Today, Advanced Enzymes stands as a major producer in Asia, a testament to a journey that started with a single fruit enzyme over half a century ago.
