Adapta Robotics, a Romanian robotics company, specializes in creating adaptable robotic products for challenging automation scenarios across various industries. The company's business model involves a one-time purchase fee for the robot, supplemented by annual license and maintenance fees.
The genesis of Adapta Robotics traces back to the founders' passion for robotics, cultivated within their team at the Polytechnic University of Bucharest. Founded in 2015 by engineers Mihai Crăciunescu, Cristian Dobre, and Diana Baicu, the venture initially operated as a corporate robotics department within rinf.tech, a software development company. This structure allowed them to develop their first product prototype with support from European Union funding. By 2021, the company spun off to become an independent entity, later securing a €2 million investment from Catalyst Romania to scale operations and enhance its product offerings.
The company's flagship product is MATT (Mobile Automated Testing Tool), a versatile delta robot designed for the physical testing of hardware and software. MATT interacts with devices like smartphones, infotainment systems, and medical equipment by replicating human inputs such as tapping, swiping, and pinching with high precision. It is used across sectors including automotive, medical, consumer electronics, and aerospace for tasks ranging from R&D to quality assurance. The product line includes MATT Standard, MATT Extended for larger devices, and MATT Adapt, which integrates the software with a 6-DoF robotic arm for greater flexibility.
Adapta Robotics also developed ERIS (Effective Retail Intelligent Scanner), a robot aimed at the retail sector. ERIS scans store shelves to identify out-of-stock products, verify price accuracy, and ensure planogram compliance. It operates semi-autonomously and can generate a full panorama of the shelves, providing real-time data to store associates and management systems. A strategic partnership with Carrefour Romania led to a customized version of ERIS named MARCEL.
