Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL), formerly Adani Transmission Ltd, is a key component of the Adani Group's portfolio, concentrating on the energy sector. The company was founded in December 2013 by Gautam Adani, who separated the transmission business from Adani Enterprises. Born into a modest family, Gautam Adani's entrepreneurial journey began early, dropping out of university to work as a diamond sorter in Mumbai before starting his own diamond brokerage. Revenue is generated through the construction and operation of transmission lines, the distribution of power to over 12 million consumers in Mumbai and the Mundra SEZ, and trading activities. A significant and growing revenue stream is the smart metering business, which has an order book of over 22.8 million smart meters. The company also develops and operates high-voltage transmission lines and substations, connecting power generation sites with industrial, urban, and rural consumers. A major milestone was the renaming from Adani Transmission to Adani Energy Solutions in July 2023 to reflect its expanded service offerings beyond just transmission. The company is India's largest private transmission company, with a network spanning over 26,600 circuit kilometers across multiple states. Through its subsidiary, Adani Electricity Mumbai Limited (AEML), it serves a large consumer base in Mumbai. Key acquisitions have been central to its growth, including the purchase of Reliance Infrastructure's Mumbai power business and several transmission projects from PFC Consulting and KEC International. The company is also focused on sustainability, with AEML aiming to increase the share of renewable energy in its mix to 60% by 2027.
