In 1991, a group of entrepreneurs including Alex Bavelos, Bipin Ghelani, and Anil Kohli founded Actix. They focused on a complex but critical problem for the burgeoning mobile phone industry: network optimization. As mobile phone usage grew, operators faced immense challenges in managing their network performance. Dropped calls and poor data speeds were common, and operators needed a way to see what was happening on their networks to fix it. Actix developed software that provided mobile operators with visibility into their radio access networks. This software analyzed network data to help engineers identify and resolve issues, ultimately improving the customer experience. The company’s tools became essential for troubleshooting, network monitoring, and optimization. For years, Actix grew as an important, yet behind-the-scenes, player in the global mobile communications infrastructure. The company's journey reached a major turning point in 2013 when it was acquired by Amdocs, a large provider of software and services for communications companies, for approximately $120 million in cash. This acquisition integrated Actix's network optimization solutions into Amdocs' broader portfolio, allowing Amdocs to offer a more comprehensive suite of tools to their massive customer base of network operators worldwide.
