Ace Designers Limited is the flagship company of the Ace Micromatic Group, India's largest machine tool conglomerate. It was founded in 1979 as a design consulting firm in Bangalore by three engineers from the Central Manufacturing Technology Institute: A.V. Sathe, Benedict Machado, and Shrinivas G. Shirgurkar. The founders pooled a combined 35 years of machine tool experience to start the venture, initially creating product designs for various machine tools.
The company shifted to manufacturing in 1982, producing special purpose import substitution machines for the I.C. Engine valve industry. A significant milestone occurred in 1986 with the start of CNC lathe manufacturing, timed with the growth of India's automotive industry. This strategic move propelled Ace Designers to become India's largest manufacturer of CNC turning centers, a position it has held for nearly two decades. As of early 2024, the company has an installed base of more than 60,000 machines globally and holds an approximate 25% market share in the domestic CNC machine market. In FY2023, Ace Manufacturing Systems Limited (AMSL), a specialist in machining center CNC lathes, merged with Ace Designers, enhancing its product portfolio.
Ace Designers manufactures a wide range of products including CNC turning centers, Turnmill centers, sliding head automats, and provides tooled-up and automation solutions. The company serves diverse industries such as automotive, aerospace, defense, engineering, and education. Its business model focuses on producing both standard machines and highly customized solutions to meet specific client requirements. Manufacturing is based in several plants around Bangalore, with a combined area of over 50,000 square meters. To ensure timely delivery, the company adopted a flow line assembly system, similar to the automotive industry. Revenue for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024, was reported at ₹2,240 Crore. Sales and service are handled by Micromatic Machine Tools in India, with an international presence through a dealer network in over 25 countries.
