Abyss Company, founded in 2019 as Blue Entertainment, is a Seoul-based entertainment and content creation firm. The company rebranded to its current name in December 2020 and is managed by Lee Dong Hyung, the former CEO of Makeus Entertainment.
The firm's business spans several areas, including artist management, content creation, and e-sports. In February 2021, Abyss Company acquired Makeus Entertainment, a move that significantly expanded its presence in the entertainment industry. The company represents a diverse roster of Korean pop artists, such as Sunmi, Sandara Park of 2NE1, and the group Melomance. In a move to broaden its global reach, Abyss has formed a strategic partnership with the U.S.-based music distributor Symphonic Distribution to promote emerging artists from Southeast Asia to international audiences.
Beyond music, Abyss Company has a significant footprint in the esports world, managing the professional gaming team DPLUS KIA (formerly Damwon KIA Gaming). This team won the League of Legends World Championship in 2020. The company has also ventured into the digital asset space by entering the non-fungible token (NFT) business through a collaboration with marketing company FSN.
The company's growth trajectory attracted significant investor interest. In October 2020, it secured a Series A investment of 14.5 billion KRW. This was followed by a Series B funding round of 25 billion KRW in January 2022, which valued the company between 100 to 110 billion KRW (~$84 to $92 million USD). Investors include LB Investment, Korea Investment Partners, and Yuanta Investment.
