Kabutoyohou is a news curation media platform that provides forecasts on how economic news will impact stock prices for individual investors. The service was launched in September 2015 by Zaisan Net Inc., a company founded by Misao Ogino. Ogino, who holds multiple master's degrees and a doctorate, has a background as a network engineer and consultant in the late 90s, was involved in new business ventures at Sony, and later worked in venture capital for over eight years before founding Zaisan Net.
The platform addresses the difficulty for individual investors to determine whether breaking economic news is already factored into stock prices. Kabutoyohou polls professional analysts and traders from Kabutocho—Tokyo's equivalent of Wall Street—on whether a specific news item will cause a stock's price to rise, fall, or if it has been priced in. These poll results, effectively serving as a real-time analyst consensus for individual news articles, are then made available for free to users via its website and mobile apps. This model leverages the collective intelligence of market professionals to provide timely insights, particularly targeting day traders and active retail investors.
The service curates IR announcements, press releases, and other timely news, providing voting results from professionals often within 30 minutes of an article's release, aiming to capitalize on the time lag before information is fully reflected in the market. By January 2016, the service claimed to have achieved a monthly forecast accuracy of 81%. In 2017, the operating company, Zaisan Net, also began selling an AI-powered chatbot called "Phantom Agent," which uses natural language recognition to provide stock prices, charts, and related news. The platform has also integrated with securities trading apps, such as Monex Trader, to facilitate direct trading for its users.
