Founded in Berlin in 2012, 9Cookies was a technology company that developed a point-of-sale (POS) and delivery management system tailored for the restaurant industry. The firm provided an iPad-based application, known as the GastroPad, which functioned as a comprehensive, internet-based restaurant management tool.
The system offered a suite of functionalities designed to streamline restaurant operations. These included serving as a cash register, processing card payments, administering tables, and managing delivery orders along with driver tracking. Beyond core transaction and order management, the platform also featured tools for marketing and provided a dashboard for analysing sales data and generating reports. A notable feature allowed restaurant patrons to place orders and call a waiter directly through the system. The company secured seed funding in two rounds in 2013 from investors including Avala Capital and WestTech Ventures.
In June 2014, 9Cookies was acquired by Delivery Hero. The acquisition, described as an "acqui-hire," involved integrating the 30-person team and its technology to bolster Delivery Hero's technological capabilities in the food takeaway market. At the time of the acquisition, Marcus Ross served as the Managing Director of 9Cookies.
